Notes from Mr. Doss and Mrs. Van Sickle

  • Our parent chaperones for the DIA trip are from the families of: Herrera, Hill, Durkee, Swanson, and Anton.  Please have students dress up for the DIA but also keep in mind students will be sitting on the floor.  The buses will leave for the DIA at 10:10am and we will return before 3pm.  Please pack your child a "brown bag"/ disposable lunch.
  • Please sign up to volunteer at our 5th grade Halloween Party (ALL 5th Graders in all 3 classes will have one party!) or donate items.  We are only in need of 6 volunteers so it is first come first serve.  (Please only sign up if you are able to help all morning and you aren't needed in another classroom! We may or may not pause for 50 minutes to go to special in the middle so you may a break from 9:25-10:15.  We are working on scheduling now!)  The link in https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0f4aa4ae23aafc1-5thgrade2
  • Be sure to log on to POWERSCHOOL to stay up to date with your child's grades and missing assignments. Our 1st marking period of 5th grade is coming to an end.  All redos, missing work, absent papers and incomplete work are due THIS Friday, Oct. 25.  We will end our marking period with a math test and language arts test.  Social Studies and science will be coming shortly after!
  • D5: This week in d5 we will cover: Persuasive articles, author's point of view, Greek and Latin prefixes, sentence fluency, varied sentence structure, and fixing run-ons and fragments.  There will be a QUIZ on Friday covering all of these skills.
  • Spelling: This week will be taking our test on Wednesday before we head to the DIA.  We will not have a pre-test or a new list of words for the following week. Thank to everyone that came out and supported the McDonald's night! Between the donations and the McDonald's night we should have enough to cover Spelling City.
  • SS: This week we will visit the DIA to see Native American Artifacts and write a compare and contrast essay about two different NA cultural regions. Look for a test soon after!
  • Science: We will continue with our first unit on Matter.  We will begin to conduct investigations to determine whether mixing two or more substances results in a new substance.
  • Math: We will spend this week reviewing for our unit one test. The date for our unit test will be Tuesday, October 29th.
  • PTO News:  Sign up to volunteer at Boo Bash or send in donations please! They are still in great need of volunteers and donations for our Boo Bash on October 25th. Please bring in any donations of bottled water, pop, and nut free candy to the school office.  PTO would like to make this a successful event, but it will be difficult without volunteers and donations. Sign up to volunteer. Any help is appreciated.  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050B4FAEAA2FA7FF2-boobash
